HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A moped rider is in critical condition after a crash in Kalihi on Wednesday evening.

The crash happened at around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Houghtailing and Olomea streets.

Emergency Medical Services said a 22-year-old woman, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered life-threatening injuries after she was apparently hit by a vehicle.

EMS said they gave the victim advanced life support and took her to the hospital for further care.

Officials have closed Houghtailing Street in all directions between King and Peter Buck streets and asked the public to avoid the area.
