GCSE and A level shakeup as exams could soon be taken on screen View Image

A number of GCSE and A-level examinations could transition to digital formats by the end of the decade under new proposals from the exams regulator. Plans outlined in a consultation document published by Ofqual on Thursday suggest that certain GCSE papers in smaller-entry subjects, including some languages, along with A-level examinations excluding maths, may shift to screen-based assessment from approximately 2030.

The regulator is seeking feedback on permitting each of the four examination boards to submit two new specifications that would involve digital rather than traditional pen-and-paper assessment.
