MONTAGUE – The game seemed to be in hand … and then, it wasn’t.
But, fortunately, in the end it was there again.
Leading by three with just six seconds left, the Manistee boys basketball team was sent reeling when Montague buried a 3-point shot to tie the score to force overtime.
Worse still, the Wildcats went up by four in the overtime before the Mariners finally woke up and finished with an 8-0 run to win the game, 49-45.
The Mariners are off to a 2-0 start in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division thanks to the win, which sets up tonight’s big showdown against long time rival Ludington in Manistee’s gym.
Manistee missed several layups, and was only 10-of-30 at the free throw line (7-of-25 in regulation) for the game.
