Syracuse, N.Y. – James Corl III, the third generation of a prominent Cicero family to enter politics, plans to announce today that he’ll seek the Republican nomination to challenge state Sen. Chris Ryan in next year’s election.
Corl, 23, of Cicero, said he will resign from his job as legislative director in the office of state Sen. Mark Walczyk, R-Watertown, to focus on his campaign.
Corl is the grandson of Cicero Republican Chair Jim Corl Sr. and son of Jim Corl Jr. , a former Cicero town councilor, town supervisor and Onondaga County legislator. Corl Jr. lost a bid for Onondaga County Family Court judge in 2022.
Corl III graduated in 2020 from Cicero-North Syracuse High School and December 2022 from Le Moyne College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science.
