Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a barrage of gunfire while sitting in a vehicle in a Birmingham neighborhood.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the victim as Frederick Demond Robertson. He was 23 and lived in Birmingham.

The gunfire erupted at 5:57 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue West.

Shot Spotter, the city’s gunfire detection system, recorded about 20 rounds fired. Callers to 911 also reported shots in the area.

When police arrived, they found Robertson unresponsive in the car, which was parked at a curb in the Bush Hills community. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:22 a.m.

A second victim, also an adult male, was taken by private vehicle to the hospital. The severity of his injuries was not immediately known.
