LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The trial of 56-year-old Desmond Nkala, who faces one count of manslaughter after prosecutors accused him of fatally hitting Pulaski County Special School District security guard Officer Victor Montgomery, has continued into day two.

The incident happened on Monday, August 14, 2023, when officials said Officer Montgomery was directing traffic and children in front of Joe T. Robinson Elementary on the first day of school.

The jury heard testimony from an Arkansas Crime Lab Medical Examiner who gave additional details about Officer Montgomery's injuries. He explained that Officer Montgomery has sustained a "number of superficial blunt force injuries," and the significance reflected the force of the vehicle and the aftermath of the incident.
