Jowai, Dec 11: A man was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in jail for rape.

Wanbha Bhoi of Mukroh village was convicted under section 376(1) IPC and another two years in jail for criminal intimidation under section 506 IPC.

In a verdict on December 10, District & Sessions Judge, Jowai NA Khan said the sentences will run concurrently. The convict was also levied a fine of Rs 5000 and Rs 1000.

Police said an FIR against Bhoi was lodged on October 8, 2018 at Nartiang Police Station a day after he committed the crime and was investigated and chargesheeted by WPSI I. Kharpran.
