FORT DODGE, Iowa —
A house fire in Fort Dodge led to a large firefighter response early Thursday morning.
According to the city of Fort Dodge, the Fort Dodge Fire Department responded shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday to a structure fire in the 200 block of J Street. Crews found a two-story home with heavy fire on the first floor.
A second alarm was requested and five off-duty firefighters joined to assist. The home's occupants escaped without assistance, but a dog died at the scene.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
