The Mets are already busy trying to replace franchise legend Pete Alonso.

After the franchise’s all-time home run leader signed with the Baltimore Orioles for five years, $155 million on Wednesday, the Mets began making phone calls. One of them, according to John Denton of MLB.com , was to the St. Louis Cardinals.

“With the Cardinals already fielding several calls ... they were queried by the Mets with interest in (Willson) Contreras, per a source, after first baseman Pete Alonso left for the Orioles in free agency,” Denton writes, via MLB.com. “Contreras is expected to waive his no-trade clause to play in New York.”
