KALAMAZOO, MI — The Kalamazoo Event Center is beginning to take shape, looming over downtown Kalamazoo.
The $515 million project is expected to open its doors for sports, concerts and conferences in fall 2027 . It will host Western Michigan University basketball and hockey teams, as well as Kalamazoo Wings hockey.

Builders celebrated a construction milestone on Dec. 9, spokesperson Allie Lochart said, lifting part of the roof into place.
“Each one of those trusses is 100,000 pounds,” she said. “(They are) assembled in the bowl of the arena and then lifted into place.”
