The family of the off-duty police officer who was killed in September after he was shot multiple times at a Circle K gas station has filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming the officer's death "could have been prevented."
The officer was David Jewell, an Edgewater police officer.
The suspect, 24-year-old Eduardo Machado, was a clerk at the Circle K.
Lawsuit
Politis and Matovina, attorneys for Jewell's family, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Circle K Stores Inc., "alleging that negligence and preventable failures led to the tragic death of their loved one."
The complaint says Circle K was negligent in their hiring and retention of Machado, "which led to the brutal murder of David Jewell."
