The suspect in the shooting death of a 31-year-old man stood over the injured and motionless victim in a Birmingham street and fired one last shot to make sure the man was dead, according to court testimony.
Benjamin Williams, 33, is charged with capital murder in the Nov. 8 slaying of Jeremiah Stone.
Williams is also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and with attempted murder in the wounding of 48-year-old Albert Young in the deadly shootout on the city’s west side.
Young, who was with Stone in a vehicle and reportedly returned fire in the shootout, is charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.
Williams appeared before Jefferson County District Judge William Bell on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
