The atmospheric river system that dumped rainfall on much of Western Washington this week will continue to weaken Thursday, though the threat of catastrophic flooding remains.
The Seattle area will see patchy fog with rain that persists into the afternoon then drops off a bit before picking up again later this evening with a quarter to half an inch of rainfall, National Weather Service meteorologist Johnny Burg said. Temperatures will peak in the mid-50s.
The central and southern Cascade Mountains could see up to 3 inches of rain through Thursday evening.
Breezy winds will gradually taper throughout the day from 25 to 35 mph gusts this morning, though the weather service warns of additional downed trees and power outages because of heavily soaked soil.
Friday will be a bit of a repriev
