CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health has announced a $1 million commitment to expand its "Healthy Neighborhood" program, a collaborative initiative with Vandalia Health Network and InComm Healthcare designed to address food insecurity across 45 counties in West Virginia.
The investment follows a successful three-year pilot phase that demonstrated significant positive health outcomes for participants. The program works by providing eligible patients with a pre-funded InComm health benefits card, which can be used exclusively to purchase healthy and nutritious food items at accessible grocery locations, including major retailers like Dollar General, Kroger, and Walmart stores.
