The first Michigan player in the class of 2026 has announced he will be playing elsewhere after the firing of head coach Sherrone Moore.
Four-star 2026 tight end Matt Ludwig requested his release from his letter of intent — a request Michigan granted.
“I requested my release from Michigan and I’m opening up my recruitment,” Ludwig said, per Rivals. “Michigan did approve my release.”
Ludwig, a Billings, Montana native who stands 6-foot-5, is the No. 12-ranked tight end in the ‘26 class and No. 242 overall player. For now, Michigan still has three-star ‘26 tight end Mason Bonner, who’s 6-foot-7 and could become an intriguing receiving option.
