More police officers and a new public order unit are among the things residents can expect next year following Halton Regional council’s decision to approve a $252.4-million Halton police operating budget for 2026.

The budget, which represents an 8.33 per cent increase compared to the $233-million 2025 budget, was approved during a Dec. 10 meeting.

“I am thankful to both the Halton Regional Police Services Board and Region of Halton Council for their support of the 2026 Halton Regional police budget. Today at regional council, they officially passed the budget as prepared, and presented by the board and the service,” said Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner.
