LANSING, Mich. — Nearly $645 million worth of appropriations funding for work projects in Michigan was blocked in a committee meeting that lasted less than five minutes on Wednesday.
These so-called "work projects" already had approved funding for 2025 and had a special designation where unused funds could be rolled into the next year.
Around this time of year, the State Budget Office (SBO) provides its recommendations for what work projects from the prior year should be rolled over into the following year to continue the projects. Then, the House Appropriations Committee denies or approves the various work projects' funding for the following year. In most cases, the appropriations committee rubber stamps these work projects through the following year.
