2024 Swiss Eurovision winner Nemo has returned their trophy in protest against Israel being allowed to compete in 2026, stating that “the contest was repeatedly used to soften the image of a state accused of severe wrongdoing, all while the EBU insisted Eurovision is “non-political.”

As well, Iceland became the fifth country to withdraw from the contest. Former Iceland contestants Daði Freyr and Hatari (who held up Palestine banners during the show in 2019 in Tel Aviv, for which the public broadcaster in Iceland was subsequently fined €5000) have posted in support of the decision.
