INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU/AP) - The Indiana State Senate has voted to reject a bill that would redraw the state’s congressional districts .
The Senate voted 31-19 against House Bill 1032 , which means the bill will not move forward to Indiana Gov. Mike Braun’s desk.
Twenty-one senators from the Republican supermajority and all 10 of the chamber’s Democrats voted down the redistricting proposal, which would have split the city of Indianapolis into four districts and potentially eliminated the districts of the state’s two Democratic congressional representatives.
The vote comes after the state Senators faced months of pressure from the White House to redraw the map in a plan pushed by President Donald Trump to help his party win all nine of the state’s congressional districts.
