A mother-of-five has been found guilty of fraud after nearly £19,000 worth of National Lottery tickets and scratch cards were discovered at her home.
Siobhan Ferguson, 40, took the items from the Premier Store on Devonshire Road in Ulverston, where she worked as a part-time shop assistant. Preston Crown Court heard that her gambling addiction drove the thefts throughout 2020.
Ferguson’s employer, Nigel List, who had known her as a customer for six years before hiring her in 2019, noticed an unusual spike in scratch card activations. Normally around seven packets were sold weekly, but suddenly 12 were being processed, suggesting a monthly loss of approximately £2,500, reports the Mirror.
