A plan to build a northeast Indiana racetrack for luxury cars is gaining speed.

The owner of the Auburn Auction Park has accepted an offer from Fort Wayne businessmen Chuck Surack, Tom Kelley and Bill Bean. The deal, for an undisclosed sum, is expected to close in 60 to 90 days, Surack said today.

The track will likely open to club members in summer 2027, he said.

Surack said previously that the proposed project won't be anything like the former Baer Field Raceway, which sent multiple cars without mufflers speeding around a half-mile track at night.

Instead, the track's primary use would be by the owners and their customers. Luxury automobile owners want to drive their rides faster than the legal speed limit, he said.
