PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit by more than 100 Phoenix firefighters, alleging that they were underpaid for years despite having advanced certifications.
The lawsuit involves 101 Phoenix fire captains with certifications like paramedic, hazardous materials and technical rescue, who say they're paid less than captains without those certifications.
Captain Adam Skiver said he and others have been fighting for that back pay for a long time.
“It is a frustrating thing. And that it’s had to come to this level. We’re only asking for what we were owed,” he said.
Skiver said he and his wife, who is also a firefighter, still are not being paid at the correct step.
"We performed that work and we just wanted to be paid for it,” Captain Scott Porter said.
