BATON ROUGE, La. —
Louisiana's insurance commissioner has approved State Farm's request to lower auto insurance rates.
The rates will be lowered by 5.9% for more than a million policyholders with personal auto insurance. Advertisement
The company said the decrease was driven by a reduction in the frequency of physical damage claims.
However, State Farm is increasing its average price for homeowner policies by 9.7%.
State Farm said the increase is due to their hurricane models which project higher future losses in Louisiana.
The changes are set to take effect January 1.
