A former science teacher at a secondary school in the Boston Public Schools district pleaded guilty Thursday to child exploitation, according to prosecutors.

John Magee Gavin, 35, of Brookline, admitted guilt on one count of coercion and enticement of a minor, one count of receipt of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said in a statement . He was indicted by a federal grand jury in July and remains in federal custody.

Gavin formerly taught at the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Boston, prosecutors said. Before that, he was a sixth-grade teacher at the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School in Hyde Park and a paraprofessional at the Hayes School in Brookline.
