RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Henrico County is rolling out new camera technology across its Department of Public Works fleet to track real-time road conditions following this week’s snowfall that forced many school divisions to cancel or delay classes.
The county is outfitting about 250 vehicles with a Geographic Information System (GIS) cloud-based mapping camera technology that allows officials to monitor road conditions and track which areas need attention.
Paul Smith, assistant director of Henrico County Department of Public Works, said the county put the system in motion after the January snowstorms and tested it for the first time during last Friday’s snowfall.
“I was like a kid in the candy store because I’ve been wanting this for years,” Smith said.
