BOISE, Idaho — Shoshone County officials in northern Idaho declared a state of emergency Thursday as flooding along the Coeur d’Alene River and St. Joe River forced evacuations and prompted a large emergency response, according to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the sheriff’s office said additional off-duty patrol deputies, fire and EMS personnel, Silver Valley Search and Rescue members and other first responders have been deployed to patrol flooded areas, including Coeur d’Alene River Road, Beaver Creek, Prichard Creek and St. Joe River Road.

Silver Valley Fire Rescue’s swift-water rescue team has already helped residents safely evacuate their homes, the sheriff’s office said.
