WASHINGTON — The U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation by Rep. Bob Latta on Thursday that would require the Department of Energy to conduct regular assessments of the nation’s electric supply chain, voting 267 to 159 to pass the measure.

The Electric Supply Chain Act (H.R. 3638) directs the Secretary of Energy to prepare periodic assessments and reports to Congress on all components and infrastructure needed to generate and transmit electricity across the country. The bill requires DOE to examine trends, risks and vulnerabilities in the supply chain; identify barriers to expanding domestic manufacturing capacity; assess national security considerations; evaluate workforce challenges; and provide recommendations to address emerging issues.
