The Walt Disney Company has signed a major deal with OpenAI to bring its famous characters into the world of artificial intelligence. The agreement allows OpenAI’s video tool, called Sora, to generate short clips featuring Disney favorites like Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, and Luke Skywalker.
Disney said the three-year licensing deal covers more than 200 characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. Fans will be able to create and share videos using these characters, costumes, and even iconic settings from the films.
As part of the deal, Disney will invest $1 billion in OpenAI. The company also plans to use OpenAI’s technology to build new tools for Disney+ and other Disney experiences.
