The Boys and Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska announced a complete shutdown, leaving families and children uncertain about next steps.

Officials cited financial challenges, delayed government funding, and rising costs as reasons for the closure. The move has sparked concern across the community, with parents warning that it could leave young children without care while their parents work.

On social media, one person wrote, “This is devastating. This is risking young children being left alone while parents work.”

Another said, “This is a huge loss to the community.”

The club is sending families to two groups for help: the YMCA and Thread, which helps parents with childcare referrals.
