KIHEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A wastewater overflow was reported at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Kihei Wastewater Pump Station in Kalama Park, according to the Maui Department of Environmental Management.
Crews are working on repairing the mechanical failure in the main that caused the overflow.
The sewer spill has potential health impacts for the park, the Kihei Fire Station, and some nearby properties.
Crews have been on the scene assessing the situation and conducting repairs.
Maui County asks that all properties connected to the County sewer system in the South Maui area, including Sugar Beach, Kihei, Wailea, and Makena, stop or minimize the amount of toilet flushing, bathing, laundry, and dishwashing to reduce the amount of raw wastewater in the system during this emergency.
