The IndyCar Series announced Thursday, Dec. 11, that an independent panel will officiate races starting in 2026.
The new non-profit organization, IndyCar Officiating Inc., will be governed by a three-person board: Ray Evernham, Raj Nair and Ronan Morgan. Evernham and Nair were voted in by IndyCar team owners, and Morgan was appointed by the FIA, which runs Formula 1.
Evernham was long entrenched in NASCAR, notably serving as Jeff Gordon's crew chief for three championship seasons. He has also been a team owner, commentator and consultant.
Nair has been in the automotive industry for three decades, and has overseen Ford Motor Co.'s racing programs.
