The Jammu and Kashmir government has instructed teachers at all government and private schools to monitor and report stray dog populations in and around the premises. As per the orders issued by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) and accessed by NDTV, heads of government and private schools were directed to designate Nodal Officers for monitoring and coordination of stray dogs.
According to Sakina Itoo, J&K Education Minister, the move is in response to the Supreme Court's directives on the management of stray dogs. "There is a Supreme Court direction on management of stray dogs, removing them from schools and hospitals. I think the orders may have been issued in compliance with the SC order," Itoo was quoted as saying by the outlet.
