The attorney representing a MAGA clerk who was convicted of state charges related to her efforts to subvert the 2020 election was elated on Thursday after President Donald Trump announced a "pardon" for his client, according to a new report.

Tina Peters, the former county clerk in Mesa County, Colorado, was convicted of seven charges for her actions to help Trump allies access the county's voting systems. She was sentenced to nine years in state prison in 2024.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump announced he was granting a "full Pardon for her attempts to expose Voter Fraud in the Rigged 2020 Presidential Election."

"Democrats have been relentless in their targeting of TINA PETERS, a Patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our Elections were Fair and Honest," Trump posted. "Tina is sitting in a Colorado prison for the 'crime' of demanding Honest Elections."

Elizabeth Landers, White House correspondent for the PBS News Hour, said in a post on X that she spoke with Peters's attorney, Peter Ticktin, about Trump's announcement.

"He had not heard this news until I read him the president’s post over the phone," Landers posted. "His reaction: 'Freaking fantastic!'"

Landers also noted that Trump does not have the authority to pardon people from state crimes. She added that she asked Ticktin about the pardon and whether it would break legal precedent.

"The Constitution really needs to be read and understood" through "the eyes of the founders and what did they mean when they wrote it," Landers said Ticktin told her.
