Illinois public libraries have been added to the list of locations permitted to stock and administer opioid overdose reversal agents, following an update to a standing order by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). The new policy allows trained library staff to provide assistance in case of a suspected overdose on site.
The change is part of ongoing efforts across the state to address opioid-related emergencies in community spaces. Libraries join other organizations already authorized to keep these medications available for emergency use.
