FARGO — Just days before Christmas, the Fargo Park District says at least two evergreen trees were cut down and removed from separate parks in the past week.

A police report has been filed about the Grinch-like crime.

There are now just two stakes in the ground at El Zagal Golf Course near Elm Street, where a small evergreen tree stood as of last weekend.

The park district's forester says it was clear the tree had been cut down, with someone claiming a person was out vandalizing trees on the course.

He says someone also removed a tree from the area near the Mickelson Softball Fields at about the same time.

The park district tracks all the trees that are planted on parks like the ones at El Zagal, adding it is going to take some time and resources to get them both replanted.
