Indiana University’s top-ranked and undefeated football team is the talk of the College Football Playoffs. Sports journalists and YouTube commentators for months have marveled how a state known for its love of basketball could produce such a football juggernaut, forgetting that 12-time national champion Notre Dame is located in South Bend.

Football, in fact, has always been popular in the Hoosier State, particularly in Fort Wayne. Bishop Dwenger is the Class 4A state champion. Bishop Luers is the Class 2A runner-up. And two hometown heroes were selected this week as the state’s best at their position.
