CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — The Chandler City Council voted late Thursday night against an artificial intelligence data center project following hours of comments from community members.
The final vote was 7-0. Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said it was refreshing to see so many people involved and voicing their opinions about the process.
The proposed $2.5 billion data center would be built on 40 acres near Queen Creek and Dobson roads in south Chandler, an area already home to several data centers.
President Trump has issued an executive order this year to fast-track AI data center construction, calling it a matter of national security. But neighbors living near the proposed project are focused on noise concerns and quality of life issues.
