Finding peak performance in the state championship race is hard to do.
Jasmine Martoglio's journey to that place took as many twists and turns and ups and downs as the LaVern Gibson Course on which the Bloomington South senior finished her high school career . She did so with a near career best race and a state medal.
The 2025 Herald-Times Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year made it to the finish line the hard way.
"For her, my gosh, she's been through a lot of injuries that set her back," South coach Jill Rensink said. "And her ability to be patient and trust in the process, put her head down and keep working, she has an amazing ability to push herself beyond what other would push themselves.
"It resulted finally for her to see the results she knew she was capable of."
