A pensioner has been fined for littering after he spat out a leaf which blew into his mouth.

Grandad Roy Marsh was fined £250 by enforcement officers after a small leaf blew into his mouth and he spat it out.

His daughter Jane Fitzpatrick said the littering fine is a 'total disgrace'.

Mr Marsh - who has walking difficulties, a heart condition and severe asthma - 'wouldn’t hurt a fly', she added.

The 86-year-old was handed a £250 fine by East Lindsey District Council when officers saw the incident and confronted him as he was walking around a boating lake in Skegness, Lincolnshire, in February.

The fine was later reduced to £150.
