MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio - Firefighters from Mesopotamia and other communities are on the scene of a barn fire in the Valley's Amish country.

Dispatchers in Geauga County got a call at around 4:30 a.m. Friday, after flames were seen coming from the barn on Peters Road, east of Route 528 in Middlefield Township.

The first firefighter on the scene reported that the fire had spread to the rear of the two-story, medium-sized barn and that the roof had collapsed.

Fire trucks crowded the road as crews worked to keep the flames from spreading.

Fire departments went to Middlefield Village to fill their tankers with water to fight the blaze.

The blaze was under control in about half an hour, but firefighters expected to remain on the scene for a while.
