New Delhi: Anna Hazare has announced his ‘final agitation’.

The 88-year-old social activist will begin an indefinite hunger strike on January 30 in Maharashtra’s Ralegan Siddhi to protest against the state government’s failure to implement the long-pending Lokayukta Act. ADVERTISEMENT

Hazare, who reiterated that the law is crucial for public welfare but continues to be ignored despite repeated assurances, had in 2022 gone on a hunger strike in Ralegan Siddhi. He withdrew the protest after mediation by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Union Agriculture minister. A committee then drafted the legislation, and the Bill was passed by both Houses of the Maharashtra Assembly and forwarded to the President for assent.
