MIDLAND, MI — Leslie Lawrence, the owner of the shop at 86 Ashman Circle, will be retiring ahead of the holidays, three years after she started planning her retirement.

“Because of my customers and because I know the importance for this shop to be here in Midland, it took me that long to decide,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence purchased the shop in 2012 from the previous owner, Mary Quast.

“I have a tremendous customer base. They have become friends and they have kept us going,” Lawrence said. “They have always been a mainstay of Material Mart, even before I purchased it, and they have continued to just be incredible.”

Besides offering fabric, Material Mart has offered other quilting and knitting-related goods, as well as classes and sewing machine repairs for its loyal customer base.
