A non-profit organization that operates a shelter for homeless people in Peace River, Alta., is asking the town's mayor and council to reconsider their decision not to send a letter of support for its bid to extend the facility's operating hours.
The Sagitawa Friendship Society runs the Out of the Cold Shelter in the northern Alberta community, located about 500 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
The shelter allows people to stay overnight, grab a meal, do laundry and connect with support services. The facility is a wet shelter, meaning patrons can utilize the space while intoxicated.
