NEW ORLEANS — Derrick Groves, the man convicted in a 2018 Mardi Gras double homicide, received two life sentences on Friday for the 2018 fatal shootings that left two men dead.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office announced on Friday. He will serve two life sentences for the second-degree murder and attempted murder charges in the shooting that killed two men and injured two others during Mardi Gras in 2018. He was convicted in October.

Groves was one of ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center. His hearing is tied to the case that initially led to his incarceration.

Groves still faces separate charges related to his escape from custody.
