Derrick Groves, who was convicted on two counts of second-degree murder last year for a brutal 2018 Mardi Gras killing before breaking out of the New Orleans jail with nine others earlier this year , received two life sentences on Friday.

Judge Dennis Waldron handed down the sentences, to be served consecutively, along with others for attempted murder and a litany of lesser charges.
