Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to homeowners to locate a crucial item in their property to prevent a potentially devastating £9,000 bill. The Money Saving Expert founder discussed this vital household component on his BBC podcast , speaking about its importance in avoiding costly water damage.

Mr Lewis spoke about the need to know the location of your stopcock, also referred to as a stop tap. This essential valve controls the mains water supply entering your property and serves as your first line of defence against flooding from burst or frozen pipes.
