ALBERT LEA, Minn. — Freeborn County Emergency Management is reporting a security breach in their emergency notification system, CodeRED, which was discovered in late November.

An organized cybercriminal group claimed responsibility, prompting an active law enforcement investigation.

Freeborn County says forensic investigators revealed that data, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and passwords, may have been removed from the system. The CodeRED platform, typically used for mass emergency alerts, has been decommissioned to prevent further risks and will not be restored.
