Wes Streeting has warned flu is causing 'the worst pressure the NHS has faced since Covid' as cases continue to soar in England.
The Health Secretary said he is 'genuinely fearful' for the health service if the resident doctors' strike does go ahead next week . He also criticised the British Medical Association (BMA) for its planned industrial action in December, claiming 'they know that this week will be most painful for the NHS'.
The warning comes as amid surging flu cases , with new figures published on Thursday (December 11) showing flu cases at a record level for the time of year after jumping 55 per cent in just one week - to an average 2,660 patients in hospital each day last week.
