Four bison bulls left their home at the Trexler Nature Preserve in Pennsylvania on Nov. 19 for new grazing land at the Seneca Nation’s Gawki:yo:h Farms in New York, marking the second transfer between the conservation partners working to restore grassland ecosystems and support Native food sovereignty.
Lehigh County, Lehigh Valley Zoo, Wildlife Restoration Foundation, and Seneca Nation of Indians announced their collaboration on the relocation Thursday. It advances a partnership aimed at creating a conservation herd model that keeps bison wild while contributing to grasslands recovery.
