Drivers are being urged to check under the bonnet from Saturday. Motorists are being reminded, ahead of Christmas, that cars could be at serious risk of damage in colder weather, with meteorologists warning of a potential downturn in conditions.

Leasing Options said: “Check that your vehicle is topped up with windscreen wash and anti-freeze ahead of the colder months. Choosing a winter-specific screen wash will prevent the fluid from freezing on the windscreen, and it is strong enough to effectively clean grit salts, mud, and other tough substances from the glass.

"It’s also crucial to top up with antifreeze, which stops the water in the cooling system from freezing and damaging the engine.”
